The 7-mile hike in Poway is a very popular spot among locals. Though there is a gorgeous scenic view of Ocean Beach throughout the hike to enjoy, most people visit for the famous picture on the “potato chip.” This iconic picture on the rock makes it look like you are hovering above the Earth. Though the trail gets pretty steep in some parts, it is totally worth it! Just make sure you get there pretty early, as this is a well-trafficked site.
12. Watch paragliders as you hike the Torrey Pines Natural Reserve
The 200-acre coastal state park has aweing ocean views! Spot whales swimming below you in the ocean, or look above to see hang gliders flying in the sky! There is never a dull sight at Torrey Pines. Though the 8 -mile hike is not the easiest for beginners, there are plenty of wildflowers and cacti to enjoy along the trail.

13. Take trip to the past at Old Town
This area of San Diego is rich with history and completely free to explore! See San Diego’s first courthouse and oldest school. Just taking a walk down the streets of Old Town, you will be amazed by its historic buildings and attractions. Visit Presidio Park’s peaceful greenery, Wells Fargo Museum’s old artifacts, or Heritage Park’s Victorian homes. If you can, try to visit during November when they host their free Dia de los Muertos Events and its candlelight sundowns.
14. Have a Picnic at Kate Sessions Memorial Park
Dog-friendly and wide open, this amazing park is straight out of a movie! Overlooking mission bay and the downtown skyline, this inclined park is perfect for a picnic. Another local tip: you can even see the Sea World fireworks from here if you get there in time.

Coronado Bridge is not only California’s longest bridge, it is also one of the most beautiful. Drive through the iconic on your way to the island and take in the view of the downtown city landscape, and the sailing boats below. Driving through the Coronado Bridge feels like a California dream come true.
16. Take a relaxing walk through Seaport Village
The waterfront village is free to enter and walk around. Full of live performers and free special events, stop by the afternoon to enjoy the entertainment. You can also walk down the harbor to the Embarcadero to view the great USS Midway and the giant Unconditional Surrender Sculpture.
